The Most Historic Community in America History Hunt is designed to help make the case that Downtown Richmond, centered in Shockoe, is quite literally without question the most historic community in America. The History Hunt offers Richmonders and visitors a fun, energetic, trolley-aided, self-guided tour of a special portion of the most historic community in America – Shockoe and the lands along the north bank of the James River.
Each Saturday, History Hunters will be tasked with returning from their Hunt with a specific set of digital pictures, answers to riddles, and other historical scavenger items from Richmond’s past. History Hunters are asked to bring either a cell/smart phone or a digital camera to gather the pictures and are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes as the Hunt is intended to be an energetic trip through history. History Hunters will receive a trolley pass providing “hop-on hop-off” access to two trolleys running a loop through Shockoe and along the riverfront, connecting to all aspects of the Hunt and required pictures/riddles. History Hunters also receive a lunch coupon good for a special Hunt meal at selected Shockoe restauarants or for $5 off their lunch at a long list of participating restaurants in Shockoe Bottom and Shockoe Slip. Finally, every participant who returns with the correct set of pictures and scavenger items is eligible to win randomly drawn prizes each week.
