The Most Historic Community in America History Hunt is designed to help make the case that Downtown Richmond, centered in Shockoe, is quite literally without question the most historic community in America. The History Hunt offers Richmonders and visitors a fun, energetic, transit-aided, self-guided walking tour of a special portion of the most historic community in America – Shockoe Valley and the lands along the north bank of the James River.
The History Hunt’s Spring Series runs every Saturday from April 28th through May 26th. Each Hunt starts at 11am and lasts until 4pm. History Hunters may begin their Hunt at any time - expect a leisurely paced Hunt to take about 3 hours to complete. History Hunters are tasked with returning from their Hunt with a specific set of digital pictures, answers to riddles, and other historical scavenger items from Richmond’s past and present – please bring either a cell/smart phone or a digital camera to gather the pictures. History Hunters receive a transit pass providing “hop on hop off” access to trolleys and/or buses running a circulator loop through Shockoe Valley and along the riverfront, connecting to all aspects of the Hunt and required pictures and riddles. But while the trolleys and buses get you close, History Hunters are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes as the Hunt is intended to be an energetic experience. History Hunters also receive a lunch coupon good for a special Hunt meal at selected Shockoe restaurants or $5 off their lunch at a long list of participating restaurants in Shockoe Bottom and Shockoe Slip. Finally, every participant who returns with the correct set of pictures and scavenger items is eligible to win randomly drawn prizes each week.
